This weeks Music Monday feature goes to Louise Chant
, a London bombshell with a voice that will have you mesmerized. Read our interview with her below on how she first got into music, style icons, and a playlist she put together to start your week off on the right note.
How did you first get into music?
I began pursuing music professionally at age 12. My journey started when I recorded a video of myself singing an original song I'd written and posted in on Facebook. The response was so overwhelmingly positive. It ignited a flame in me. I continued posting videos and shortly after joined a production company. Together we recorded 2 EPs and a mixtape, but around age 16 I found myself yearning for more. I then started meeting with a bunch of producers, managers, and labels and then finally I met an A&R from Atlantic Records who introduced me to a producer named Syience who executively produced the project I'm gearing up to release now, Welcome to Aranbi.
Is there a creative process when your writing a song?
I think about the pain I've been carrying and what I'd like the music video to look like. It starts there and then I begin filling in the details. I rarely tell stories that mirror my reality, I prefer fantasy so much more. In my mind there's more vibrance than I've actually seen with my eyes and those are the visions I want to share. I feel as though those images are more captivating.
What musicians inspired you growing up?
Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Beyonce vocally have inspired me so much. Their execution both on recorded and live performances is something that left me in awe during my childhood and still leaves me in awe today. I can only hope and pray that I am able to reach those highs in pure talent and ability. It's the result of hard work and unmatched dedication.
Who are your top 3 style icons?
Solange, Lil Kim, and Naomi Campbell.
Your hair is amazing! Any hair or beauty secrets?
Thank you so much. My only hair secret is that wigs are a girl's best friend! Because I wear wigs I'm able to go from blonde to pink to teal colored hair without affecting the health of my natural hair's follicles. I'm able to achieve unnatural volume heights and do a million styles that my natural hair wouldn't recover from immediately. Wigs grant me versatility and they are a staple part of my fashion.
What's next for you?
I am gearing up to release my next single, Drugs, which will be on Kitty Cash's Love the Free mixtape! I am also going to release a music video for my single, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is. And then I'll be releasing my debut EP, Welcome to Aranbi. I couldn't be more excited. Thank you so much for interviewing me!
