We got a major dose of girl power at Austin Psych Fest this weekend courtesy of badass band babes, L.A. Witch. After owning the Elevation stage at Carson Creek ranch, we caught up with Sade, Irita and Ellie to talk style, girl crushes and their exciting summer record.
Who are your top 3 girl crushes? All: Poison Ivy, (The Cramps), Kim Gordon, early Joan Jett.
What does girl power mean to you? All: Spice Girls.
Fashion Icons? Sade: I think my style is a little more masculine so a lot of my fashion idols are males like Johnny Thunder. He’s super punk-rock but he also likes to dress up in nice suits. Also, Lux and Poison Ivy (The Cramps). They wore leather, leopard print and vinyl. Kurt Cobain wore a lot of oversized clothes and I like doing that and feeling more comfortable. The Ramones had really cool style too. Leather jacket, jeans and converse.
In the realm of fashion, what are your tour essentials? Sade: I have an unnecessary amount of sunglasses on tour. Shoes, too. I feel like if you have the right shoes on it doesn’t always matter what you’re wearing. Accessories are really important. Plus a leather jacket. Doesn’t matter if it’s cold or hot; it’s always leather weather. Maybe not today in Austin but in L.A. it’s always leather weather.
Who are your Austin Psych Fest band crushes? Sade: Jesus and Mary Chain and The Soft Moon.
You’re our girl crushes and we’re dying to know about this new record you’re working on! Irita: We’ve got about six or seven new songs… Sade: It should be coming out in the next two months in July and we’ve already started recording it. Just needs the finishing touches. Mixing and adding a few new tracks. Irita: It’s coming out on Lolipop Records! Sade: Our new single “Kill My Baby Tonight” should give a good sense of what the vibe on the record is going to be like.
