Original Sketches Of Afropunk's Fancy Dress Ball By Ilse Valfre

If you don’t know what the movement AFROPUNK let us tell you!

AFROPUNK, the self proclaimed blank space to freak out movement, started in Brooklyn over a decade ago and is gaining more and more momentum as the years go on. Their mission is to turn a spotlight onto diverse perspectives and undo narrow stereotypes by hosting events based around art, fashion, and music.

Annually they hold an event called The Afropunk Fancy Dress Ball In New York, and this year the fancy dress ball decided to make a special appearance in LA thanks to Red Bull’s Sound Select 30 Days In LA. The event took place at the historic Park Plaza Hotel and special performances were made by Big Freedia, Cakes Da Killa, Byrell the Great.

Ilse Valfre was so inspired by the unique and diverse styles of attendees, she gave her creative hand and sketched some of her favorite looks from the night. Take a peek below for some major inspo thanks to one of our favorite stylists, Alexandra Mandelkorn, who dressed everyone that night.
