We caught up with bombshell Kira Ship on style, art, and life in NYC.
We love your fashion sense and essence you serve us from your personal style, what advice would you give to others upon how you dress and how you get yourself together every day?
Wear whatever the fuck you want as long as it's weather appropriate, that's what my mom always said. I think people in NYC seem to actively disregard the weather, like it's an anarchist statement. I don't know how that trend started but it's pretty funny to me. I loved how last year, white sneakers had a huge resurgence, and that's probably why I partied so much that summer. Sneakers > Heels.
5 words to describe your sweet style, go!
young broke artist. that's three
How long have you been modeling all around NYC?
Since I moved here 5 years ago, but I've been doing it for friends since I was kid because everyone our age wanted to be a photographer. I think of modeling as a collaboration, whether that's with a single person or a huge team. I'm not signed with an agency because I like the freedom to pick which creative projects I want to be involved in. And without an agency I can side step all that "free test shoot" bullshit. You know, because everyone's just looking for free labor these days... Listen, just pay your models, pay your interns, and karma will pay you back.
We love you and your girl gang, what do you all like to do on your days together?
Same thing everyone else here does, drink, talk shit, and record it all on our phones. Jk but not really :)
We hear you're a painter, and we love that. What's your angle when it comes to your art and creating?
Well I'm a thinker, not a sketcher. Never been able to finish a sketchbook and they always end up getting filled with lists/poems/ideas anyway. I like to paint people. I like to paint from a reference. I have a really honest approach to painting I think, which has often gotten me into trouble in the past. It's just that everyone expects you to be "making a statement" but sometimes I just want to make a painting.
Whats your next move in the industry or with your personal ventures?
Well I've been working in fashion for a couple years, and I'd like to get my hands dirty in the art world again. Not that they're mutually exclusive, but art will always be my first love.
As far as personal ventures... I've been concept-ing a few group shows that i'd like to curate. Mostly I just want to be doing more weird shit with friends.
