Music Monday: Shae Brock

Pop queen Shae Brock first captured our hearts with singles, “All Good” and “You” in 2017. We caught up with her about her creative process along with the inspiration behind the tantalizing sound of “Sapphire Smoke.” Read all about it down below!

We see that for your single, Transparency, you worked with Gucci Mane. What was that like?

Working with Gucci was so surreal! He's a legend and hearing him on a song I wrote is such a dream. I love how our sounds meshed in Transparency, pop and urban.
Sapphire Smoke, a song I just released, I'm very excited about sharing it. I wrote it about the feeling of desire. Sapphire is the hottest flame; fire takes over everything in its path... such like desire.

When did you first recognize your musical talent?
I grew up entertaining. I think I sang before I spoke haha. I started piano when I was six. later picking up my grandpas Yamaha guitar and learning a few chords. I started singing poetry to them and that was the first time I had a song. It’s been my life ever since

What was it like writing music for the first time?

I started writing music very young. It was magical. I could not wait to show anyone my creations! I used to come home from school and just sit with my guitar writing for days until my fingers bled.

What’s your creative process like?

I love writing melodies and later puzzle piecing words to it. I don’t have one set way of writing… and I love being able to collaborate with other artists also.

If you could travel back to any era, which would it be and why?

The 70’s. I love Stevie Nicks and all the great music and fashion of the time. To think about Sunset Strip in those days… and of course bell bottoms baby.

What has been the most exciting part of sharing your music with others?

The fact that it connects us. I may have never met you.. but it’s the wildest thing to think maybe my experience I wrote into a song could resonate with you as deeply as it did for me. It makes me really happy to know something I made is touching others. And could possibly be for generations to come. That’s the thing I love about art, it never dies.
