Saturday, April 20th is Record Store Day! This special day is meant to celebrate all the independent record stores and the culture behind them. According to the official Record Store Day website, this is the day for the people who make up the world of record stores, aka the staff, the customers, and the artists, to come together and celebrate the instrumental role these independently owned stores play in their respective communities.
In celebration, many record stores host special releases, live events and giveaway promotional products exclusively for this day. The very first Record Store Day took place in 2008. Today there are record stores participating in this day on every single continent except Antarctica! In the United States alone there are over 1400 independently owned record stores and even more internationally.
Record Store Day is the perfect opportunity to not only support an independent local business but also to find new artists to listen too and fall in love with. Whether you're buying a record, a CD, a cassette (people still make those!) or other types of merch we know it’s guaranteed to be a good time, so make sure you go out and support your local shop!
Below is a list of shops that participate in Record Store Day in different cities. Visit RecordStoreDay.com for a complete list of participating record stores.
